This weekend the GreengineerZ attended the Western Michigan Robotics Invitation in Zeeland, MI. We achieved our primary objective of introducing new team members to a FIRST robotics event. This provides them with some practical context of what goes on during the competitions.
GreengineerZ Pursue Deep Learning
This year, the GreengineerZ have been faced with a new problem. In previous years, we have used green LED’s and GRIP produced by WPI. However, this year, due to the lack of reflective tape on the field, we’ve decided to take advantage of our NVidia Jetson TX1 to pursue embedded deep learning, aka neural networking.
GreengineerZ Panera Fundraiser November 6, 2017
The GreengineerZ are continuing their fundraising for the 2018 build season. With over 18 new members we are going to need extra funds this season to accommodate the increased travel expenses. A tasty way to show your support is to join us at our Panera fund raiser.
Great results at 2017 IRI (Indiana Regional Invitational)
The GreengineerZ had a successful weekend at the Indiana Regional Invitational in Indianapolis, IN.
GreengineerZ Chipotle Summer Fundraiser
The GreengineerZ have started fundraising for the 2018 build season. A tasty way to show your support is to join us at our Chipotle fund raiser on Monday, July 24th between 4:00pm and 8:00pm.
GreengineerZ Accepted to IRI
The GreengineerZ are proud to announce that we have been accepted to IRI! (Indiana Robotics invitational) This has been a goal for our team for quite some time. IRI is composed of top tier teams who have been carefully selected. There will be teams from all over the United States attending as well as teams from Canada and Mexico. Although this is very exciting for us we need your help!
In the 2017 season, we had a new head coach, had to switch build sites twice during build season, and had a team of only 9 high school students. Despite the odds, the GreengineerZ won their second district event (LSSU District), was the captain of the 3rd alliance in our division at the Michigan State District Championship, won Tesla Division as the 4th alliance captain at the World Championship, got to play on the overall championship field (St. Louis Einstein), and ranked in the top 1% of teams in the entire world! Sadly we are running low on funds due to our struggles and accomplishments of our past season. We would love to represent our community, learn about other teams, and share our knowledge. Our team would appreciate any donation as we continue to grow. If we do not reach our goal, all funds will be used to support our 2018 season. Anything helps, thank you!
Stop by the Mini Maker Faire in Saint Joseph, MI
Stop by the Mini Maker Faire on Sat. to see robots in action. The GreengineerZ will be there along with several other teams. Last year
all four of the age specific FIRST programs were represented by 14 area teams. Hope to see you there!

St Joseph District Event March 10-11 2017
We learned so much, made many adjustments and improvements, collaborated and networked with many teams and are grateful for all the support from our coaches, mentors, community and sponsors who made this experience possible. A big thank you to Alliance 4 Captain Paw Paw High School FIRST Robotics Team #5462 2pawR and Team 1918 NC Gears for picking us to be part of their alliance! We had an awesome run and made it to the semi-finals!
We are honored to be the recipients of the Engineering Inspiration Award and will be representing the St. Joseph District in this category at the Michigan State Championship in April!

Day 1 Review
Our pit is setup, the robot is unbagged and we have passed inspection. We were even able to get a practice match on the competition fields.
All systems on the robot are working and we are please with the speed of the robot. We missed placed the gear in autonomous by a very small amount. This was due to some tracking adjustment code meant for the practice robot. The pit team is replacing the retaining clips on the drive train in the morning as a preventative measure.
We currently do not know our match schedule. As of the close of the pits last night 29 out of 40 teams had passed inspection. Opening ceremonies will start at 10:30am with qualification matches starting immediately afterwords.
Watch our blog for information on how to remotely watch the event live.
